Sant Salvador in Mallorca
The mountain and the monastery
The Sant Salvador mountain is more than 500 m high, and has a view over Felanitx and the whole island. Here you can enjoy the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets of the island, all the way to the sea. The mountain is the highest point of the mountain range in the east of the island, the “Serra de llevant”.
Sant Salvador Monastery Felanitx
On the mountain is the monastery with its small chapel and church, along with the small hotel and restaurant (it is definitely worth spending a night here). In addition, there is the large statue “Crist Rei” (from 1934) and the cross, from where you have the highest point for a gigantic panoramic view over the whole island (this point or secondary mountain is also called “Es Picot” among the Mallorcans, where the cross was erected in 1957).
Arrival and departure to Sant Salvador
You can get to the top of the mountain through many serpentine curves, where you can go up by car or by bike (if you are really in good shape) bit by bit, and enjoy the view while eating (about 7km in total). But if you come from another town, the first important thing is of course that the mountain is in Felanitx, where you have to turn right on the MA-4011 towards Portocolom, you will see the sign with the name “Sant Salvador”.

Sant Salvador Monastery and its history
The monastery was built on the mountain around the 14th century, with the idea of establishing a sign of gratitude, by the survivors of the plague (in the beginning, however, it was only the chapel). Piece by piece, the complex continued to be built, including the monastery. Another point why the monastery and the complex was so important for the municipality of Felanitx is that it was used as a fortress against pirates or other enemy attacks.
Finally, the church itself was built in the 18th century, where to this day every Sunday and holiday mass is held around 5 pm.

Possession and property of the monastery
Around 1992, the monastery was given by the Order to the private ownership of two Mallorcan schools. This is also how the present hotel “Petit Hotel” came into being.
The Hotel Sant Salvador
The hotel was built, as already mentioned, from the 1992 year, through a complete renovation and refurbishment of the building. Nevertheless, you should not expect great luxury here as in 5-star hotels, but that is exactly what makes the charm of this small hotel. Highly recommended is to try the “Arros Brut” in the restaurant (a typical Mallorcan saffron rice soup).
