A picture book hidden beach? Visit Felanitx!
As a patch of earth that delights with an unbelievable 300 days of sunshine year after year, the longing island of Mallorca is a true paradise for holidaymakers of all ages. Between hikers, cyclists, sun-seeking package holidaymakers and boisterous Ballermann partygoers, however, it can be difficult to escape the crowds and find a natural spot right by the sea.
Please don’t get us wrong: the hustle and bustle and positive energy that reigns year-round on the most popular Balearic island is bursting with life and is literally contagious. However, for those hoping for a peaceful sunbath in the crystal clear Mediterranean Sea for a change, Mallorca should stray off the beaten tourist track to enjoy the stunning beaches at a safe distance from the summer crowds. We will tell you our insider tip where you can swim your laps undisturbed and watch a romantic sunset in peace and quiet!
Mallorca’s gold piece: what makes Felanitx beach so unique
Hand on heart: Mallorca is not exactly an insider tip. Instead, at numerous coves, you’ll have some trouble finding a stretch of beach that isn’t already littered with umbrellas and towels. The municipality of Felanitx in the southeast of Mallorca, on the other hand, has something to offer that is hard to find elsewhere: quiet fun on the beach – making the town of the same name the hidden gem of the island.
I beg your pardon? A lonely beach on the popular holiday island of Mallorca? Hard to believe, but true: Felanitx doesn’t just have one hidden beach, but several. Felanitx surprises with such a naturally idyllic beach that it is even highly praised by the locals. Interspersed with breathtaking cliffs and caves, Felanitx beach not only offers summer scenery, but also the option for adventurous exploration. We have found five postcard-ready sandy paradises near Felanitx for you, where nothing stands in the way of a relaxing afternoon:
Beach #1 at Felanitx: Cala Serena
Where wooded cliffs line the northern shore and where locals prefer to dive into the cool water, you can swim excellently. The water in the bay of Cala Serena is shallow and only gradually deepens. As there are hardly any high waves in the sheltered bay, this Felanitx beach is ideal for families with small children.
Beach #2 near Felanitx: S’Arenal Gran de Portocolom
Don’t worry: S’Arenal Gran de Portocolom beach bears no resemblance to El Arenal beach near the Ballermann! Instead, locals love the gently sloping water and panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. S’Arenal Gran de Portocolom can therefore be described as a rather lively beach by Felanitx standards.
Beach #3 at Felanitx: Cala Brafi
A small beach in the middle of nature, bumpy paths on the way to the cool water and an untouched landscape: This is the Cala Brafi beach near Felanitx. Only a handful of visitors stray into the small bay – so you might even be able to enjoy the beach all to yourself…
Beach #4 near Felanitx: Sa Nau
As soon as you have made your way down the idyllic stone steps to the beach, a backdrop of crystal-clear water and fine, white sand awaits you. The seabed, which is mixed with algae and corals, attracts significantly more fish than bathers – and is therefore ideal for diving and snorkeling.
Beach #5 near Felanitx: Caló d’en Marçal
The sandy beach of Caló d’en Marçal, surrounded by rocks, is well protected from wind and waves and is therefore the ideal territory for all sea lovers: whether for swimming, snorkeling, diving or simply sunbathing under the shady pine trees – the Caló d’en Marçal beach near Felanitx has something to offer for every Mallorca traveler!
