Mallorca is not only known for its beautiful beaches and vibrant cities with nightlife, shopping streets and promenades. Mallorca is also known for having many picturesque villages, spread over its valleys and mountains, which retain their charm from times past.
Here is a list of the most beautiful villages in Mallorca, whether for living or vacationing, you will not be disappointed.
The 7 most beautiful villages in Mallorca
1. valldemossa
Valldemossa is located behind the Sierra de Tramuntana, nestled in the breathtaking mountain scenery, with stunning views all around. Many small streets with cobblestones and traditional Mallorcan houses with natural stone cladding. A village like out of a picture book… The monastery is much visited here, where at another time the composer Frederic Chopin and the writer George Sand stayed.
2. sóller
Many lemon and orange plantations, homemade traditional ice cream and impressive architecture. You can also go here with the “Red Lightning”, the old railroad from Palma that connects to Sóller (which is not red, but brown). Definitely visit the Port de Sóller, the port is very beautiful and romantic.
3. portocolom
Portocolom is a picturesque coastal village in the southeast of the island, with many small fishing houses, a beautiful small old town and several small natural beaches. The port itself belongs to the largest natural harbor from Spain and Europe. The small streets and alleys are particularly busy in the summer, where the Mallorcans sit down with their folding chairs and tables on the street, directly in front of their houses, and there in peace chat and enjoy the evening… Small tip; the Arenal beach and the S’Algar bay.
4. deià
A charming village that has been a retreat for artists and writers, also like Valldemossa and Sóller in the Tramuntana Mountains.
5. artà
Artà is a quiet village in the northeast of Mallorca, surrounded by other villages like Colonia de Sant Pedro, Son Serra de Marina, Cala Ratjada or Canyamel. Artà has an imposing church and old city walls, which gives the whole village a small medieval atmosphere. Very, very much nature and beautiful mountains surround the beautiful village. Above all, visit the Sant Salvador Castle at the top of the mountain!
6 Pollença
In the north of Mallorca lies the famous coastal village of Pollença, with its beautiful harbor. Especially recommended; the Plaza Major with its cozy cafes and restaurants.
7. santanyi
Always considered one of the most beautiful villages on Mallorca, Santanyi has been the star of the southeast for many years (slowly getting competition from villages like Cala Figuera, Cala d’Or, Portocolom, Felanitx and Campos). A great old town with small streets, picturesque houses and great gastronomy.
