Jet skiing is becoming increasingly popular, especially in sunny paradises such as Mallorca, the Maldives and the Caribbean. Jetskis are motorboats or water boats (also known as “moto de agua” in Spanish). A jet ski is very easy to drive and steer, has great speed and is a lot of fun. Of course, you also have to follow a few rules when driving. You must keep a distance of 250m from the beaches (due to bathers) and 50m from the coast. Life jackets are compulsory, and the minimum distance from other jet skis is 100m and 50m from divers (who are marked with buoys).
Jet ski rental is available at most coastal resorts, beaches and harbors. You actually need a driver’s license to drive a jet ski (although there are some places that don’t ask for one…), but it can be done in one day and there are many driving schools that offer it. The course is usually taught in small groups and costs around €400.
The cost factor is around 150-200€ for 2 hours, depending on the zone and jet ski model.
