What makes it special is the mix: In the morning, you can stroll through a traditional market; at noon, go for a swim in a small cove; in the afternoon, sample some wine; and in the evening, celebrate with the locals at a verbena.

In addition, there’s Portocolom, historic sights, bike routes, and a hinterland that many vacationers never even get to see. Especially if you’re looking for an authentic Mallorca away from the biggest tourist spots, Felanitx is one of the most interesting regions on the island.

When is the best time to visit Felanitx?

The best time to visit depends on what you want to experience. May through September are particularly good for the beach, boat tours, and summer festivals. July and August also feature some of the community’s most important traditional festivals.

Cyclists and hikers, on the other hand, benefit particularly from the milder temperatures in spring and fall. Even the original Felanitx Guide specifically recommends April and May for bike tours.

If you want to experience Mallorca’s culinary scene in a much quieter setting, don’t underestimate the appeal of winter and early spring. That’s when the season for typical local dishes begins, while the streets, villages, and hiking trails are much less crowded.

Felanitx is worth a visit all year round, not just in the summer

1. Cala Sa Nau: one of the most beautiful beaches near Felanitx

If you’re looking for a beach in the municipality of Felanitx, Cala Sa Nau is one of our favorites.

This small cove is located about ten kilometers from Portocolom and is framed by a natural rocky landscape. The water is clear and a deep blue, making Cala Sa Nau the very image that many travelers have of a typical Majorcan cove.

There’s also a chiringuito, so you can easily spend several hours or an entire day at the beach here. In July and August, it’s a good idea to arrive early, since the cove is relatively small.

Felanitx Beach (not Cala Sa Nau)

2. Cala Marçal: Combining the Beach and Portocolom

Cala Marçal is one of the most convenient ways to combine a day at the beach with a visit to Portocolom.

The sandy beach is located right next to the town and offers clear, blue water as well as dining options in the surrounding area. This makes Cala Marçal particularly well-suited for families and travelers who don’t want to walk a long way to a secluded cove (especially appealing to beach volleyball players, as the beach is very deep and offers plenty of space for the game).

Our tip: Visit Portocolom in the morning, then spend a few hours at Cala Marçal, and round out the day with dinner at the harbor.

Another option is S’Arenal in Portocolom. The beach is easy to get to and also has a chiringuito.

4. Discover Portocolom

Portocolom is one of the most beautiful places on Mallorca’s east coast, and for us, it’s a must-see on any trip to Felanitx.

The town is situated on a large natural bay and has retained elements of its original character as a fishing port. Small boats, traditional boathouses, and the lighthouse define the scenery. The best way to explore Portocolom is on foot and without a set itinerary. Stroll along the harbor, take a look at the traditional fishermen’s houses, and then sit down at one of the restaurants or cafés.

But Portocolom isn’t just a place to explore from land.

5. A Trip Through Portocolom Bay on a Traditional Llaüt

One of our top recommendations for 2026 is a trip on a traditional Mallorcan llaüt.

A llaüt is a typical Mediterranean boat that is closely associated with the traditional seafaring culture of the Balearic Islands. Instead of a large tourist excursion boat, you can rent a llaüt with a captain in Portocolom and experience the coast in a much more personal way.

We especially love a tour that includes a typical Mallorcan merienda—a light snack served on board. Then the itinerary basically consists of just this: leaving Portocolom, cruising along the coast, anchoring in a quiet cove, jumping into the water, and then having a bite to eat on board (which you can often order in advance). Sometimes, that’s all you need from Mallorca.

In our opinion, a Llaüt excursion like this from Portocolom is one of the most special activities in Felanitx for couples, families, or small groups.

The Best Things to Do in Felanitx and Portocolom

6. Rent a boat or yacht in Portocolom

If you’d like a little more space or comfort, you can also rent a motorboat or a yacht in Portocolom.

Depending on the provider, boats are available with or without a skipper. This allows you to combine visits to several coves along the coast and reach places that are much harder to access from land.

Especially in the height of summer, a boat also offers a major advantage: Instead of fighting for the last spot in a small cove, you can simply anchor off the coast and jump right into the sea.

7. Jet-skiing in Portocolom

If you’re looking for speed instead of relaxation, you’ll find opportunities for jet ski tours around Portocolom. This lets you explore the coast from a completely different perspective. Jet skiing is particularly well-suited as a short activity during a day at the beach or in the harbor and can be easily combined with a visit to Cala Marçal or a stay in Portocolom. When making a reservation, always check the provider’s specific licensing, age, and safety requirements.

8. Bicycle Tours Around Felanitx

Felanitx is an excellent place for cycling on Mallorca. As soon as you leave the coastal area, quiet roads wind through vineyards, fields, and small villages. Routes between Felanitx, Cas Concos, Es Carritxó, s’Horta, and Portocolom are particularly charming .

You can connect different places along the way and stop at cafés or restaurants whenever you like. Cyclists looking for a challenge can also try the climb up to the Santuari de Sant Salvador. The climb isn’t a walk in the park, but the view from the top is worth the effort.

Spring and fall are particularly good times for cycling trips, when the temperatures are more pleasant.

9. Santuari de Sant Salvador: one of the most beautiful viewpoints

The Santuari de Sant Salvador is one of the region’s landmarks.

The sanctuary is located at an elevation of about 509 meters and offers one of the most spectacular views in southeastern Mallorca. From the top, the view stretches across the coast and into the island’s interior all the way to the Serra de Tramuntana. On very clear days, even more distant islands can be seen on the horizon. The sanctuary’s origins date back to the 14th century. Today, the complex includes, among other things, the church, a chapel, and the Cristo Rei monument, which is visible from afar.

Sant Salvador is especially beautiful in the late afternoon and at sunset.

One of the most beautiful sunsets in all of Mallorca

Felanitx Sant Salvador Mountain

10. Information panels explain how people lived in Mallorca back then.

Since the tour doesn’t take very long, it’s a great way to combine it with a visit to Portocolom or a trip to the beach.

13. Hike through the quarries of Sa Mola

One of the more unusual hikes around Felanitx leads to the old quarries of Sa Mola. Marès, a type of sandstone typical of the Balearic Islands, was quarried here and used as a building material for centuries.

This short loop hike is about four kilometers long and winds through a landscape featuring former mining sites, rock formations, and cavities that are partially overgrown with vegetation. The hike is easy and is perfect for a half-day outing.

14. Wine Tasting in Felanitx

Felanitx and wine go hand in hand. The region has a long winemaking tradition and is part of the Pla i Llevant wine-growing region. That’s why it’s worth visiting at least one winery in the Felanitx area. Many people don’t realize that internationally renowned brands such as Anima Negra, 4Kilos, Es Fangar, Armero i Adrover, and Vi d’Auba,

On a guided tour, you’ll learn more about Mallorcan grape varieties, viticulture, and winemaking, and then you can taste different wines (currently available at Vi d’Auba, Armero i Adrover, and Es Fangar). For us, a wine tasting is one of the best activities for couples and leisure travelers in Felanitx.

Internationally renowned brands such as Anima Negra and 4Kilos are based in Felanitx

15. Taste Mallorcan olive oil

In addition to wine, olive oil is another important part of Mallorcan culture. When you visit an almazara—an olive oil mill—you can learn how high-quality olive oil is produced and discover the enormous differences in flavor between various oils. We recommend visiting Son Mesquidassa or Aubocassa on the way to Manacor.

The tour of the facilities and the tasting that followed were surprisingly interesting and revealed a side of Mallorca that’s often overlooked on a typical beach vacation.

Felanitx Drone Landscape

16. Eating calçots: a winter culinary outing

Not every great activity in Felanitx has to take place in the summer. If you visit Mallorca in the winter or early spring and see calçots being served at a restaurant or a local festival, you should definitely give them a try.

Calçots are long, mild spring onions that are traditionally grilled over an open fire. A “calçotada” is less of a single dish and more of a social gathering—which is exactly why it fits so well with the Mallorcan way of life.

Since the menu depends on the harvest and the restaurant, it’s worth checking with local restaurants at the last minute during the season.

17. Visit Felanitx, its art galleries, and the Sunday market

With all these excursions, don’t forget to explore the town of Felanitx itself. In the center, you’ll find traditional architecture, narrow streets, cafés, and the Church of Sant Miquel. Most of the art galleries in Felanitx are also open on Sundays; the town has come to be known as an “artists’ village” because so many artists—actors, musicians, painters, sculptors, and others—have settled here.

The Sunday market in Felanitx is particularly interesting. On Sundays, the town center fills with stalls selling food, regional products, and handicrafts. Locals and visitors mingle, and the town feels much livelier than on a typical weekday.

Our tip: Visit the market on Sunday morning, followed by a tapas lunch at a bar or restaurant, and then head to Sant Salvador.

The famous painter Miquel Barceló is also from Felanitx

Felanitx Market

18. Experience the Verbenas of Felanitx

Anyone visiting Felanitx in the summer should experience a real verbena at least once. Verbenas are summer village festivals and open-air evenings centered around music, food, drinks, and, above all, celebrating together. For us, they’re one of the best ways to experience Mallorca not as a tourist, but—at least for one evening—a little more from the locals’ perspective. In Felanitx, these summer festivals hold special significance.

One of the highlights is the Sant Agustí festival at the end of August. In 2026, Felanitx will even feature major concerts at the Parc Municipal de Sa Torre as part of its Sant Agustí festivities. Among the acts announced for the lineup are M-Clan, Celtas Cortos, and Love of Lesbian.

If your vacation in Mallorca is at the end of August, you should check out the current festival schedule in advance (and here’s a real Mallorcan insider tip: order a “Tiburon” shot at the Stand Bar, all the way in the back on the left).

19. Santa Margalida, the “patron saint” of Felanitx

One of the most important local festivals is Santa Margalida, the patron saint of Felanitx. The main day of the festival is traditionally July 20. In the evening, a verbena is also part of the festival program.

In 2026, the festivities surrounding Santa Margalida will take place in July, alongside other major summer festivals in the municipality. For travelers, this is a fantastic opportunity to experience vibrant Mallorcan traditions firsthand.

If you’re in Felanitx in mid- or late July, we’d definitely recommend including this festival in your travel plans.

20. Traditional events include Mare de Déu del Carme on July 16 and Sant Jaume on July 25. Maritime events are traditionally held around the Mare de Déu del Carme festival.
