From majestic mountain ranges to fertile plains and idyllic stretches of coastline, the island offers a wealth of natural experiences. Below we give you a detailed overview of the different landscape zones of Mallorca.  <\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"406\" data-end=\"452\">Serra de Tramuntana: the backbone of Mallorca<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"454\" data-end=\"573\"><span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem]\">The <strong data-start=\"4\" data-end=\"27\">Serra de Tramuntana<\/strong> stretches for around 90 kilometers along the northwest coast of Mallorca and forms the striking backbone of the island.<\/span> <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem]\">This mountain range was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011 and is characterized by its impressive geomorphology and cultural landscape.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"575\" data-end=\"599\">Geography and summits<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"601\" data-end=\"796\"><span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem]\">With an area of around 1,067 square kilometers, the Serra de Tramuntana is home to a total of 54 peaks that are over a thousand meters high.<\/span> <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem]\">The highest of these is <strong data-start=\"32\" data-end=\"46\">Puig Major<\/strong> at 1,445 meters, followed by <strong data-start=\"77\" data-end=\"99\">Puig de Massanella<\/strong> (1,364 m), <strong data-start=\"111\" data-end=\"125\">Puig Tomir<\/strong> (1,103 m) and <strong data-start=\"140\" data-end=\"158\">Puig de l&#8217;Ofre<\/strong> (1,093 m).<\/span> <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem]\">Below Puig Major are the two drinking water reservoirs <strong data-start=\"64\" data-end=\"88\">Embassament de C\u00faber<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"93\" data-end=\"122\">Embassament des Gorg Blau<\/strong>, which not only serve as a water supply but are also very scenic.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"798\" data-end=\"817\">Flora and fauna<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"819\" data-end=\"1060\"><span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem]\">The Serra de Tramuntana is home to a rich flora and fauna.<\/span> <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem]\">The higher altitudes are dominated by holm oak forests (Quercus ilex), while Aleppo pines (Pinus halepensis) predominate near the sea.<\/span> <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem]\">Numerous endemic plant species such as the Balearic St. John&#8217;s wort (Hypericum balearicum) and the Balearic cinquefoil (Digitalis minor) are native to the area.<\/span> <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem]\">The karstified ridges and inaccessible ravines also provide a habitat for the endemic Majorcan midwife toad (Alytes muletensis).<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1062\" data-end=\"1087\">Cultural highlights<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1089\" data-end=\"1334\"><span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem]\">The region is rich in cultural treasures.<\/span> <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem]\">Historic villages such as <strong data-start=\"23\" data-end=\"33\">S\u00f3ller<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"35\" data-end=\"48\">Fornalutx<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"50\" data-end=\"58\">Dei\u00e0<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"63\" data-end=\"78\">Valldemossa<\/strong> enchant with their traditional architecture and narrow alleyways.<\/span> <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem]\">Terraced landscapes dating back to Arab times characterize the landscape, especially in places like <strong data-start=\"111\" data-end=\"126\">Banyalbufar<\/strong>.<\/span> <span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem]\">These terraces were created to make the steep slopes usable for cultivation and to prevent erosion.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1336\" data-end=\"1361\">Hiking paradise GR 221<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1363\" data-end=\"1528\"><span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem]\">For hiking enthusiasts, the <strong data-start=\"43\" data-end=\"53\">GR 221<\/strong> long-distance hiking trail, also known as the &#8220;Ruta de Pedra en Sec&#8221;
